Base Structures
Base structure is the process of adding tiny grooves on the base of your skis to optimize the amount of glide for any given snow condition. In a nut shell, if the snow is cold and dry, you want to have a fine, condensed, rigid structure to help add moisture between the base of your ski and the snow to help the ski glide more efficiently. If the snow is warm and wet, you want to add a more coarse, round structure to help remove excess water between the base of the ski and the snow which will minimize friction/suction and improve gliding characteristics. We offer many different base structures that can be tuned for varying snow conditions and added to ski. All of our skis come with base structure as well as a world-cup race tune.
Powder
This structure has been maximized to channel water on modern wide skis. The powder structure is composed of multiple fine grooves with square edges to assist in adding moisture between your ski base and the snow where moisture is most often lacking with fresh, dry snow. This allows the ski the ability to slide more efficiently than it would without structure.
Powder 3D
This structure has been maximized to channel water on modern wide skis. The powder structure is composed of multiple fine grooves with square edges to assist in adding moisture between your ski base and the snow where moisture is most often lacking with fresh, dry snow. This allows the ski the ability to slide more efficiently than it would without structure. This is the same structure as our Powder structure but is cranked up a notch. The Powder 3D structure includes 4 vertical grooves that help channel additional water and acts like siping on a tire to control moisture content and flow even greater than our standard Powder structure. Not many companies can provide 3D structure as it takes very sophisticated and expensive equipment to do so. All of our 3D structures are grinded into our bases on our Montana Crystal Race machine which was the first in North America and remains to be one of a select few in the country.
Spear
This is our preferred and proprietary all mountain ski structure. The Spear structure includes an arrow pattern in the center of the ski for wet snow and finer herringbone lines on the outside edge for contact with dry fresh snow. The Spear structure ensures optimal performance on the mountain in varying snow conditions.
Spear 3D
This is our preferred and proprietary all mountain ski structure but with three added vertical grooves to improve the glide characteristics of the Spear structure even greater. The Spear 3D structure includes an arrow pattern in the center of the ski for wet snow and finer herringbone lines on the outside edge for contact with dry fresh snow. The Spear structure ensures optimal performance on the mountain in varying snow conditions.
Bi-Directional
Our Bi-Directional structure has been created for park skis and for anyone who enjoys skiing switch. The structure has been optimized for the ski to travel in either direction and maintain speed whether your tips are pointing up or downhill.
Bi-Directional 3D
Our Bi-Directional 3D structure has been created for park skis and for anyone who enjoys skiing switch. The structure has been optimized for the ski to travel in either direction and maintain speed whether your tips are pointing up or downhill. The Bi-Directional 3D structure is the Bi-Directional structure with two vertical grooves running the length of the ski to assist with channeling moisture.
Race Bow
The Race-Bow structure is a proven staple in the race community and is the base structure of choice for many established racers. The Race-Bow structure is optimized for hard pack/icy conditions and is great for GS racing.
Race 3D
The Race 3D structure has six 3D grooves cut into one of our most impressive racing structures. The Race 3D structure can be the differentiator that sets you apart from your competition. Built to go fast!
Batman
Batman structure is our preferred structure for narrower all mountain skis. We like to run Batman structure on all mountain skis that range from 90mm-100mm underfoot as we have found it performs extremely well for these widths in varying snow conditions. Batman works great for new fresh snow in the morning and older wet snow later in the day.

Tuning Equipment
At Crosson we provide world class tuning services at an extremely competitive price with short lead times. We are able to offer such services due to our state of the art tuning equipment. All of our equipment is built by Montana which is highly regarded as manufacturing the best tune robots in the world. Some of our tuning machines are: Montana Saphir, Montana Crystal Race Pro, Montana Infrared Waxer, and Montana MRS 2000.
Montana Saphir
The Saphir is our main work horse tuning machine at Crosson. It can do world class base structures as well as base and side edge beveling up to 4 degrees. The side edges are prepared with high precision and fulfill the highest demands in the ski racing world. The harmonious movement of the grinding stone follows the contour of the ski shape during the grinding process, precisely controlling the amount of material being removed in accordance to the geometry of the ski.
Montana Crystal Race
The Crystal Race Pro is the most advanced ski tuning machine in the world. It can apply world cup proven 3D structures as well as a high end race ceramic disk polish. This is the only machine of its kind in North America!
The high quality grinding results are achieved by a series of components developed specially for racing service. All parameters for the service are entered on a large 15“ display. Stone grinding is performed with 8-fold VARIO structures on a 200 mm wide stone. This creates the perfect conditions for optimally adapting the gliding characteristics to all conditions. For edge grinding, 3D-RADIAL Tuning is performed with a 350 mm tuning ring at high precision that produces a perfectly race-optimized edge.
Montana MRS 2000
When damage is major, wide spread, and minor P-Tex work with a gun just wont do, we turn to MRS 2000. MRS 2000 is utilized for extreme repairs. The MRS 2000 has the ability to coat your entire base with P-Tex to fill in multiple damaged areas simultaneously.
Montana Infrared Race Waxer
The Montana Infrared Race Waxer is the tried and tested waxing method from the ski racing world which fulfills the highest demands. It provides better and more durable gliding characteristics than a traditional iron wax application. The applied wax is heated evenly and without contact by means of infrared – this allows gentle, homogeneous and deep penetration of the wax without condensation production. Advantages of infrared waxing are optimal wax absorption and retention, and improved gliding characteristics.
